Two people eating at a table. looking at the audience they are not staring at them but eating in front of them. The whole scene is in discreet colours. Everything is white and clean. Next to the table there are two floor lamps where you can only see the bulb. The whole set has been kept very minimalistic so that the audience can pay attention to the details.
We try to bring different cultural aspects into the performance. The plates are of different sizes because europeans eat from bigger plates. One participant eats with chopsticks, the other with fork and knife even there is a spoon (wich shows also a sign of freedom but also mentality to not use it). The glasses are both filled with water but the one with the chopsticks washes them in the glass and drinks tea from the tea cup. Both performers eat a banana - it stands for globalisation and is a fruit that is available all over the world - as well as being eaten immediately with the hands.
The topic of rules and restrictions fascinated us in a transcultural context, because the rules can be found everywhere in Hong Kong. We tried to show the life in public areas with different stickers and placed them in the whole exhibition. Under the mind your head sign which is very well known in Hongkong, the exhibition plate of the artists was placed to strengthen the new thinking or the impulse that the whole production should cause.
